The Annoying Little Skater

Now, the situation below never happened. So, not one of the kids at my rink. But a few years ago I came across an example of "the annoying little skater". You know the type. They learn crossovers then proceed to tell everyone how to do it. Or you do something, and they want to be all superior about it.

Now good manners won't let us tell kids the truth of what's ahead of them in life (work! bills! Mortgage! co-workers! the Boss!)  but wouldn't it be fun sometime, just to do it once?

And, kid, no matter what you do, you'll get fat.

  1. Ha! I've been on the ice with super-talented little ice dancers a lot lately and this is exactly how I feel. However, they seem to be accepting me into the group. One little boy said to me with wide-eyed earnestness, "I'm having a real crisis." And another little girl told me sweetly, "I like your skate guards." I'm starting to feel like I belong! Except when I'm working my IT band. ;-)

  2. Maybe it's the evil witch inside of me, because I actually DO tell kids things like, "life gets worse; wait until puberty hits" or "you think homework is hard, try paying rent, school loans, a car note and buying food". I then told a shocked parent and kid, "I keep it real." Had to walk away because I was laughing so hard!

  3. I ply the kids with cupcakes and sweet treats. They are always nice to me. I ply my coach with food and wine and sweets, and sometimes he is nice to me!
