Ice Doesn't Care--2nd Year Blogiversary!

Can't believe I made two years!  I thought I'd run out of topics after a couple of months, then I realized I  could  cover things so trivial no other skater would touch them…and, of course, pictures of cats.

So, what were my most popular posts of the last year (based on page views) ?

The Six Stages of Adult Figure Skating thanks to Lori over at International Adult Ice Skaters for mentioning it.

Judges--Thinking Positive. Apparently a coach at Bowie Ice Rink (I don't know who) posted it on Facebook. Thanks!

My favorite posts of the last year?

So, do you have a favorite post? Waiting to hear about it!

Judges--Thinking Positive

This is a tip from my coach Miss Bianca about testing....

"When you test, don't think 'I'm not good enough to skate for these judges'.....Instead think 'These judges came all this way, as volunteers, just to see me skate.'"

If you think of judges like this....
And you'll think about your test like this...
"They just pick, pick, pick at my skating!"
Or you think....
"They're staring at me just to find errors!"

What about thinking about the judges as if...

"Judges love skating and they've come all this way to see me skate!'

Then when you skate, you can think about your test, thusly...
"Hi Judges!"

My First Skating Test

I was cleaning out a notebook and I found a copy of my very first skating evaluation--Pre-Alpha I in June of 2007.

The last item on the test was for backwards wiggles. They taught us to wiggle our butts in order to go backwards. I did my backward wiggles like this:

Sadly not going anywhere

And my coach was like this (on the inside):

So my evaluation looked like this:

But at next practice I figured I was supposed to do this:
Oh, it's just backwards slaloms. (Facepalm)
And then I was all like this:

On to Pre-Alpha II  in July, 2007!
