There Are Days I Shouldn't Be Allowed In the Rink

I sat across from Gold Skater tonight in the booting up area to get ready for Group. I asked, "How you doin'?"

She said, "I pulled a quad today."

I sat up straight and asked, "Which one!?" Then my brain turned itself on.

"No," she said, "I pulled my quadricep. But thanks for the compliment."

Then after group she told it to the entire Freeskate Sacred Circle of  Skating Fire, and they all got a good laugh out of it.

  1. I am sure Gold skater took it as a compliment. Most of us adult skaters struggle with single jumps, so landing a quad must be pretty dang awesome. Has anybody at your rink ever landed a quad? That would be amazing to see in person and up close!

    1. I think we have a 11 yo boy who's landed all his triples.

I will say, my group coach told me that Gold Skater was the best skater in the group so I'm sure she's the one who's the most talented. I'm just embarrassed because I don't know of any woman who's done a quad (although there are some quad throws in pairs).

  2. Miki Ando is the only woman who has landed a quad in competition.

    1. Thank you for letting me know. I guess that's what I get for only following men's singles!
