And Now For the Traditional New Year's Resolutions Post

Okay, let's get the obvious out of the way.....

Let's move on....actually let's not. The left knee is fine, but the right knee is still bad, so the weight loss may be a necessity. Maybe limping everywhere will be a motivator.

Resolution 2: Get back on ice.

Resolution 3:

I'm going to set my goals low for this year.  I tried to skate Monday, but my right knee is so wonky that I only made a single circle of the ice before I had to get off. Fortunately, my rink has an unofficial 'boot testing for free' policy, so I didn't get charged for a freestyle session.

So, still off the ice. No skating. I feel so bored with nothing to do on the weekends....however, my car is really, really clean.

Turn Your Head

Sometimes, it's the little things.

A couple of weeks ago Coach Cruella fussed at me about my two foot turns. I can do them forwards and back, and in either direction, but only if I'm at a moderate speed. And when I turn from forwards to back, I tend to slow to a halt rather than glide gracefully backwards.

"Lead with your head, " she said. "Turn your head in the direction of turn, before you do the turn."

Head turn leads the body turn

It was a little thing. But like most little things, it worked.  I practiced the two foot turns a few times, making sure to lead the turn with a turn of the head. It took me a few tries to get over my hesitation of doing them at speed, but I'm now able to do them without difficulty and I have a nice glide backwards.

Why the sudden focus on two foot turns? What's all this leading up to?

The depths of beginning skater hell....back threes.

Yeah, those'll cause some posts where it will be hard to keep the Demon Negatron at bay. Wish me luck!

Too Tired To Type

Sorry, just got in from group where I was learning back 3s. Don't have the energy for the second Lake Placid Adult skate camp post. It will need to wait until tomorrow.

Back threes are the spawn of the devil. And everyone knows that heavy metal bands are the spawn of the devil. Therefore, back threes are a heavy metal band.

I want to Shout at the Devil! for Back threes.
I need to get a motley crew of coaches to help  me!
This gentleman skated with Jennifer Wester on Skating with the Stars, and coincidentally, I met Jennifer when she was coaching at Lake Placid Adult Skate Camp. See, I'm still on topic.
